Resources
A number of special resources enrich students’ experiences studying mathematics and computer science at Richmond.
Technology
The department maintains networks of Linux and Windows workstations, with numerous machines available for student use. The department also houses a 4-processor Symmetric-Multiprocessing server.
In addition to various software development tools used by computer science students, these computers support the use of Mathematica, which is used to solve problems and also to explore stimulating questions. The University also provides access to various software programs supporting the department’s statistics courses.
Online Calculators
The Calculators Online Center, run through the Martindale Center, offers students over 23,000 different calculators, used to compute everything from air travel to steam engine design.
Discipline-Specific Library Research Guide
Subject librarians at the University of Richmond Libraries maintain discipline-specific research guides for every academic course of study offered through the School of Arts & Sciences. Students conducting research in the fields of math or computer science can contact the subject librarian directly, view top recommended resources, conduct discipline-specific databases and Web sites. In addition, subject librarians frequently highlight new titles related to the academic field.
Tools for Computer Scientists
The computer science faculty maintains a Tools for Computer Scientists page containing documents describing our local computing environment and some software tools you may find helpful for your coursework.
