Brief description: A shrub 1-3 m with a large, white pith and the twigs bright red. Leaves are lanceolate to elliptic or ovate, simple, opposite, entire, pinnately veined, sparsely pubescent beneath, margins entire. Flowers are perfect, in flat to slightly convex cyme. Fruits are a white drupe with a brownish-black stone. 

Campus data: Rarely cultivated on campus, on the edge of Westhampton Lake. About ten individuals encountered.
