Common name: Winged burning bush.

Brief description: A shrub to 2.5 m; the twigs are 2-4 winged. Leaves are elliptic to obovate, simple, opposite, entire, pinnately veined, margins sharply serrate-toothed. The foliage turns bright red in autumn. Flowers are perfect, green, solitary or in cymes in the axils. Fruits are smooth, purplish, and capsular with orange arils. 

Campus data:  Very rarely cultivated on campus. One shrub encountered.
