Common name: Japanese flowering cherry.
Voucher: Kostadinov 020, 207, (URV) Brief description: A small to medium-sized tree; the bark has characteristic horizontal lenticels. Leaves are large, ovate to narrow-ovate, simple, alternate, entire, pinnately veined, glabrous, margins acutely serrate-toothed. The distal end of the petiole may have 2-4 small glands. Flowers are perfect, purplish-pink, double, large, showy and dense. Fruits are a 1-seeded, black drupe with fleshy exocarp and hard endocarp (stone). Campus data: Frequently cultivated on campus, especially around Westhampton Lake.
